Chortle your way to Nirvana with Madhukar Thompson's unique Vedanta Postcards.

Seeking is funny business or so it may seem from the postcard cartoon books on enlightenment brought out by Madhukar Thompson.
A veteran seeker from Germany, Thompson has been on the Indian guru circuit since 1980 and has written books based on his experience with various gurus, including Osho, H.W.L Poonja and Ramesh Balsekar.
His latest postcard book series Enlightenment by Airmail, Enlightenment a la Carte (based on Balsekar's Teachings), The Path of Celebration (based on Osho's teachings), and Satsang (the Papaji factor) illustrates the key concepts of Vedanta and enlightenment in a much lighter vein.

And they succeed.
You may not burst a gasket laughing but the paradoxical truths of Vedanta do raise piquant situation.
Take the woman standing on an enlightenment detector.
The inspector rejects her. Why?
Well if she were enlightened, she would know that 'she' didn't exist.

Thompson first came to India in 1972.
He fondly recalls his numerous encounters with sadhus and gurus then.
Back in Germany, he launched on a comfortable career in industrial engineering, but his quest for fulfillment brought him to India permanently in 1980.
After spending time with Osho and Papaji, a dissatisfied Thompson finally sought Ramesh Balsekar, whose austere philosophy asserts that all there is is consciousness.

Does this mean journey's end?
Thompson is not sure.
What is sure of is that he will go on writing books. At a furious clip at that.
There are more postcard books will be released shortly.
Another book on 15 gurus is on the anvil.
All of Thompson's books are published by his own publishing house, Neti Neti, represented in India by Zen Publications.
Thompson is particularly keen on popularizing his postcard books, currently priced at Rs 200 a copy.
"I would love to make the postcards cheaper," he says.
"They should be available everywhere so that the postman can bring Vedanta home".
Mail order enlightenment? Now that is a thought.

Comical View of Enlightenment

After having lived in India with Osho for twelve years, Papaji and Ramesh Balsekar for the next ten years, Madhukar Thompson has a comical view of enlightenment.
In his books which are the transcripts of his time with Ramesh in Bombay in 1995-6, he has beautifully edited and presented Ramesh's question and answers with disciples' first hand accounts of enlightenment.
When reading the discourses one can't help but have a taste of infinite trust in the divine.
This trust is the foundation for Madhukar's drive to promote understanding to seekers, joy and relief to the finders, and a great sense of relief to those of us who are not really either, but who accidentally stumble upon masters from time to time.

These deeply esoteric teachings are the inspiration not only for his comical book covers, but also a series of comic postcards which express his personal insights into the dynamics of the Guru/Disciple relationship.
The post card titled "Enlightenment by Airmail" and "Enlightenment a la Carte" are comical spiritual scenarios to send to friends or enemies alike!

Madhukar is currently living in the Osho International Commune in Pune and is finishing 4 more books and more postcard collections.
